I went to lfs 40mins ago and bought 6 harlequin rasboras to add to my new tropical tank which only has 1 goldie in it. I added them to the tank and guess what...

Mr. Goldie is nipping at all of their tails.

Do you think this will stop in a bit when he gets used to them?

Ive got tank at 22-23c

Goldfish are cold water fish and shouldn't be mixed with tropical fish.
Somtimes goldfish will eat small fish.
Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph.
Is the tank cycled.

Goldie is left over from old tank, nowhere else to put him.
60l
1 Goldie
6x Harlequins

ph 7
Nitrite&Nitrate 0
Dont have ammonia atm

Is the goldfish fancy or common goldfish.
The first goldfish alone needs 20 gallons and ten gallons for every other goldfish added.
They are massive waste producers so need double the filter size to the tank.
I would take the harlequins back as the tanks overstocked, plus the goldfish might eat them.
Would also take a sample of your water to the lfs and tell the to write the readings down for you,

Goldfish do fine in heated tanks but will grow quicker. Just can't do it the other way round and keep tropicals in coldwater!

Goldfish are big waste producers, as they get bigger they'll produce alot more waste, so more ammonia. At present it may be ok but down the line there could be problems.

I realise that, i was only asking, is the goldie attack going to stop?

has 4-5cm worth of goldie and 6cm of Harlequin.

Which will soon become 30cm of goldie and 0cm of harlequin if you don't take into account the advice given.

Goldies don't get on well with small fish and coldwater and tropical fish should not be mixed as one of them will be in unsuitable conditions. The attacks will only get worse as the goldie gets bigger.

I recommend you either find a friend with a pond or bigger coldwater tank to put the goldie in or you take the harlequins back. Although 60l is a little small for a full grown goldfish and you wouldn't be able to keep more than one in there.

about a number 7 hook straight through the head, 2 oz slip sinker, and 20 lb test. good way to catch a flathead...even better way to get rid of goldie :hyper:

joking obviously!!! but really...id get rid of the goldfish, i mean, its just a goldfish

Ok, goldie moved back to old tank. Now, ive got the six h's in the 60l.

Now, recommendations.

I want to get a male betta some time in the future, are they ok together? Can you also advise on any other nice fish to put in?

Keith

Got to be careful keeping betta in bigger tanks as some fish will nip there fins.
Plus betta don't like strong currents.
Black neon tetra get on well with harlequins.
Do a thread in tropical discussion membes will tell you what best to keep with the fish you have.

Thanks keithoms.
