ever since i planted my 65 gallon tank on friday it has been nothing but absolute hell. never ever had any sort of illness before in this tank. been runnin for almost a year with 2 year old filters from my old 33 gallon .....i woke up saturday morning to find my 6 rainbows in poor shape - tails and fins covered in cotton fuzz.. caught them all and there doing nicely in a spare salted 10 gallon... now my danios have tooken a turn for the worst as well just laying on the bottom of the tank looks like in pain not really moving which they have NEVER done before... one of the black skirt tetras looks like a white sratch like when u scratch ur knee on his head... i have NO IDEA WAT TO DO AND just feel like breaking everything down and gettng rid of it or starting over . the only one who is doing okay and showing no signs is my gold gourami, he just looks confused and lost like me. i was thinking one of my plants might be poisonus.....i really have no idea and feel like theres no point any more. im off to do a huge water change but i doubt that will help any.. hasnt helped at all yet.. done 2 40 percent changes yesterday.

If you think it is a plant, take them all out..do a big water change and treat with a wide range anti bacterial stuff..

Keep us posted though.. Good luck, and I hope all your fish make a full recovery..

D.

Have you added live plants and did you steralise them.
Can you post your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Any fish darting around the tank.
Any fish flicking and rubbing.

Signs of toxins in the water are darting around the tank.
Laboured breathing, or gasping at the surface of the tank.
Swimming upside down.
Excess slime coat.

Are any of the fish laying on there sides.
Go and smell your tank water as if its smell like rotten eggs or sulphur you have bad bacteria in your tank.
Did you do a gravel vac when you added the plants.
Wondering with disturbing the substrate with planting that you had some bad bacteria pockets.

treat with anti fungus and keep up then large water changes but do that before dosing the meds! make sure slats are added as this will help, and reduce stress by moving things around etc.

What kind of substrate? If it is sand and you havn't stirred the sand up before, and then you stirred it all up while planting, you may have released ickies into the water when you did. (don't know the exact name for what happens but I know its bad)

just emptied about 40 percent of the water... noticed one of the black skirts now has white around its mouth.. what is suggested to treat white cotton stuff on fish hopefully its a common med ... i can run up to the lfs to grab some meds... i euthenized the zebra danios as they did not look good AT ALL. practicly dead laying on the bottom of the tank.. now i just have 6 blackskirts and one gold gourami oh and my BN pleco.. havent seem him so i dont know how he is .... do i treat the blackskirts in the 65 galon tank or should i move them to the 10 gallon with 6 rainbows and treat them all .......thanks guys for all ur help it does mean a lot this is not how i wanted to spend my weekend i feel bad for these fishes and want to help them

i do have some pimafix on hand i remember in the medicine cabinet i was sold it by lfs for a betta fin rot. i never used it though maybe i can try that?? what about my pleco though... would he be okay with that.. i have a 10 gallon set up with some corys a dwarf gourami and white clouds i can put him in for the course of the medicine i just spotted him and he looks fine but i would be worried he might infect that tank even though he doesnt show any signs

ok i added a teaspoon to the rainbows in the hospital tank but what about the BN pleco in the other tank will he be alright with 6 teaspoons of pimafix

Plecs will be fine if there plenty of aeration in the tank as meds reduce 02 in the water.
its more the parasite meds with plecs.

ok perfect.. im filling tank back up now and will add the pima fix.. this has got to be the worst thing happened in my life for a long time. i feel so helpless all over some fish .. its amazing how fast this stuff can spread as now all the black skirts are displaying white stuff and acting kinda funny...i hope everything works out but i have a feeling im going to be starting over

Keep us all updated on there progress.
Good Luck.

thanks all. ive decided rather to move the blackies into the 10 gallon with the rainbows instead of treating the big tank... ill leave the gourami and pleco in there i just pray that they dont get it... will the bacteria in the tank eventually die off or will i still have to treat the tank anyways to get rid of it... it would be a shame to get them all better in the 10 then move them back and they get sick again
