Hi

Will assassin snails eat trumpet snails?

Also any one have a freshwater clam, are they any risk to plants and fish?

Thanks

Assassins will eat any snail as far as I know, including other assassins. That is usually only when they run out of food though.
Sorry I don't have clams but I havn't heard of them being a problem from people that do have them. I'd imagine it might depend on which one?

Yes, your assassin snails will eat trumpet snails.

I am also not sure about the clams thing, but I'd like to know as well. I've been interested in them for some time now.

I concur that assassins will eat trumpet snails.

From what I've read (and I have no actual experience of them) clams don't pose a threat to plants or other livestock. They just don't tend to do that well - they are filter feeders, if I remember correctly, so they rely on food coming to them. In a river, that's fine, it happens easily. In a closed system like an aquarium, it doesn't tend to happen well, so, as I understand it, they don't thrive at all.

I would suspect, too, that when they die, the first time you notice it is when the clam is rotting nicely, and your ammonia level goes through the roof. Again, this is not with any experience, this is my supposition.

I have a freshwater clam and he's never hurt anything. Mostly he just sits about in his shell. Occasionally his white blob emerges late at night to have a dig around. He has uprooted my plants a few times on his under-the-sand escapades but other than that he is a peaceful aquarium inhabitant.
