Does anyone know if assassin snails can tolerate soft/acidic water? Im planning to get some for my 10-gallon tank because my ramshorn snails (currently have 2 in the tank and saw clusters of eggs recently) are starting to multiply like crazy. I have a blackwater aquarium by the way.

I read that assassin snails can tolerate a ph level of 7.0 to 8.0 but Im wondering if they can tolerate lower ph levels?

Really appreciate anyone who can answer this. Thanks!

To my knowledge, no, they cannot. They need harder water.

Most snails need hard water, so their shells don’t deteriorate. I have heard of people adding cuttle bone to their tanks to help with this, but I have never personally done it...

I do not know if they can or can't but it would seem logical that if the ramshorns can thrive in your water, the Assassins should as well.

Look at the shells of the ramshorns. Do they look healthy? If they’re breeding, I’m sure they’re fine, but check for little holes or dents. That would indicate the water is probably too acidic for them. :)

Wow that's interesting! I've never heard or encountered this information until now. Thanks for this. I'll definitely consider this option ^_^

Already checked my ramshorns several times and never saw dents/holes. They seem to be doing just fine  thank you for this information!
