Assassin Snail Infestation :(

Just before Christmas I bought 20 assassin snails, 10 were split between 3 tanks and are keeping the MTS at an acceptable lever. However in my 80g (300l) tank I put in 10 snails, working on the rate of 5 snails/15g I though that 10 would be plenty as the MTS population had exploded but I didnt want them totally eradicated.
 
Now in the 300l tank I have an explosion of assassin snails , I cleaned out the filter on Monday and there were 30+ assassins of various sizes in the filter alone. They have bred at a stupid rate!! I thought/researched that they only laid one egg at a time.
 
If I do not provide meaty food for the assassins will they eventually cull each other down to an acceptable level?

I had a similar thing happen
 
I started with 3 assassin's and ended up with 20
 
I am now back down to 5 as the smallest snails disappeared and i am assuming were eaten

I was not aware that assassin snails could also be a problem.

Hi

I started with 3 and had about 60 after a few months. They are quite sought after so you could sell them. My local branch of maidenhead aquatics gave me £30 for 40 snails. You could get much more selling on ebay etc but I didn't want the hassle.
