I was thinking of getting one of these babies, but will one on its own breed? and will they kill every snail in my tank, because I do like have a few mts in there... they do a job!

Every source I find contradicts itself, anyone got any experences with these?

Assasin's are not hermaphrodites you need a male and a female (hard to sex).

Does anyone, know what temps they live down to?

wasnt planning on sexing them, just getting one, to try and keep the number of nusiance snails down, as my mts breed faster I was hoping they would provide a constant food source for the assasin, while still breeding fast enough to burrow and aerate my substrate

what does anyone else think?

that seems likely, as they only need to eat every few days. they should keep the numbers down without eradicating them, and if they do, they'll airate the substrate themselves.

An assassin snails can eat about 2 snails per week, if you have MTS then you're on a constant battle, Assassin snails will breed but not to the extent that a normal snail will.

MTS can reproduce a lot faster than other snails because they reproduce asexually.

I recently added a few to my own tank, I forget they are in there as they spend a lot of the time under the snad, every few days you see them out and about.
From what I was told they will eat the smaller MTS but not the bigger ones and will also eat any pest snails such as pond snails etc, I think large apple snails would be safe but I don't have any experience of this. hope this helps a bit....
