Anyone have Assasin Snails in their tank??

My LFS is getting some in next week, apparently they eat other snails which is what I would love to have. I have a discus tank with some small schooling fish and have done the clown loach thing but they tend to like to bother discus alot which I cannot have. They did an okay job at the snail problem but would much rather have a snail that does the same job.

The other question is about Singapore Flower Shrimp, anyone have one of these neat guys??

I have 4 Amano Shrimp but seen this Flower Shrimp and added him to the tank as well, gosh they are neat.

pakistani loaches are smaller then clowns and in my experience have completely desimated a tanks snail population.
and nope not had one of those shrimps sorry but the snail eating snail idea also seems good. but at the end of the day u are still left with snails so why bother ?

assain snails multiply slower but still do

They kill others yes but your loach would kill them

its to my belief that what we here call Pakistani loaches most of you would call YOYO loaches

my LFS had some the other day, ive got no snails so was only going to get them because they looked cool :hyper:
if they multiply slower, will the bigger ones then eat the babies?

I got 2 of them. One has dissappeared completely and the other is dead. Worst tenner I ever spent

I know someone who's got a few recently, so far they're alive and kicking. Don't know how much joy he's had with them clearing his snails mind.

You could just use cutlery to crush the snails and cut back on the feeding. Or trying leaving some lettuce in the tank (weighted down) overnight, snails should be all over it and can be removed in the morning.

mine seem to never get out of hand normal snails that is.

a fw seem to climb out and die reguarly

I killed a few with a fork and cut right back on the feeding. A couple of weeks later, no more snails.

I got 4 for £2 each in july, they have done an excellent job of eating my snails. I haven't seen any baby Assassin snails yet but there aren't snails everywhere now. They haven't been eating my baby cherry shrimp either.

They do not reproduce very fast in the cooler shrimp tank but are fairly prolific in warmer temperatures, when the food runs out they wont be able to scavange like other snails, they do kill a lot of snails for their size. I started with four about 6 months ago and there are about 20 now mostly just little ones but that is at 22-23C. They killed all the snails so I have to feed them now.

Will they reproduce if you just have one of them??

I will find out if they are able to get them on Monday, right now I am having a great time crunching them agains the glass. I could just kick myself for having them again and they came in on some live plants I bought per usual. But I will get the upper hand on them or at least eliminate them to a point where they don't bother me as much.

Great, my job is to get rid of everyone of these darn things. So then I will just buy one, hope it lives and eats all the other snails in the tank. Idon't want to add another kind of snail if they just mulitply too so this just might be the way to go.
