Yeah I realised that. I thought it would be neater and cheaper if they sold triples. However I imajine it might be quit complecated to wire up and fit in my hood so a single is probably better.

Only thing i would be worried about is the waterproofing of the capends, i have glass covers on my own tank and i just know you get a serious amount of condensation buildup overnight on the underside of the glass, so basically dampness exists in the hood if even in minute quantities, if you could source some sort of either dampproof or waterproof endcaps for the tubes then i think you are on to a winner and im sure lots of others will follow your lead.

Thats the only concern i would have, just another thing do the ballasts themselves not have some sort of houseing that encloses them?

Zig with the amount of heat that these 55W babies kick out any moisture that gets above the Glass covers turns staright into vapour

I know what you mean though and I'm thinking of making some form of sheild for them and also at enclosing the wiring into resin - The project itself is acting as an interim measure until the Interpets are sorted. I've also been told that these have no problems running in this way by the original finder of the ballast.

Nope on the ballast enclosure, you get the option of white metal box or white metal box. A trip to maplins should solve the problem as they tend to have various housings for little projects such as this - well if they have stock
