Question when i do my water change on my 10gal should i just add that to the 55gal tank to help kick start the the filter/bacteria ect? or should i just let the 55g be for a week and let it just run its course normally? Also for almond leaves is there a number of leaves per galleon ration or just drop one in while the tank is being set up?
There is no value in using "old" tank water in a new tank. Some aquarists will never risk cross-contaminating one tank from another, though I admit I do not usually worry about this unless I know there is something in a tank that I do not want to spread. Fill the new tank with fresh water, dechlorinate, at the intended temperature. Seed the bacteria with a bacterial supplement, or filter media of your own tanks, or live plants.
A tank is not going to cycle in a week if nothing is done to encourage this. And it will take longer than a week anyway.
What are the almond leaves for here?
