i'm sooooo stupid i could of lost my whole stock of amazing tropical fish, if only i paid more attendtion to my tank.

I was feeding the tank as normal and i thought thats strange they aint eating the food was floating and they weren't interested at all.

I immediately tested the water and it was 0 for ammonia and nitrite and 12.5mg for nitrate so i ruled that out.

For some reason it was telling me to touch the water (little voice in my head was going feel it) so i did and guess wot it was bloody..............................FREEZING!!!! i checked the temp and it read 16'C unbelievable my heater had blew!!! i picked up the heater fiddle with the dial to turn it up and never clicked in, it was already on 72 to 80 F

So i was lucky that i didn't lose any of my fish to something real bad or disease set in.

Wot a stupid mistake!!!!!!!!!!! all because i hadn't check the temp earlier on.

such an easy mistake to make and over look, i usually do it at feed time. but lately i haven't time for em anymore im think of giving up

thank goodness i have two tanks and not four, at the mo i got a problem of 3 goldfish that need rehoming into a pond as they are currently housed in with my tropicals and have distroyed my plants my tank is now bare. you of anyone that would like free goldfish

I usually check mine everyday looking at the digital thermometer and then actually touching the tank with my hand. Must have forgot yesterday as when I did them today I noticed one of the betta tanks and the only one without a thermometer was much colder than the others. I looked at the plugs and I had unplugged it to move some stuff around on Thursday night and hadn't put them back in!!

I yanked the thermometer off the coldwater tank as its not really needed on there and put it on the betta tank. It was down to 72  Betta and 2 panda cories were absolutely fine and swimming around as usual. I think it must have been because this tank was in between 2 others and also they are in my kitchen which is usually warm even in November ;)

so yeah, check those tanks every day!

how scary! I have an obsessive personality so I check the temp about every couple of hours when I'm home. I also check the fridge door, door locks, window locks, etc. all the time, yet when I go somewhere I'm sure I left something unchecked.

Good thing you caught it when you did. I would still keep a close watch on your fish for the next little while, they may be healthy now, but the stress from the massive temp drop could do some damage. I hope i won't though.

Well the tank has been fine today i have done my usual stint in there, checked the sponges and filter pads < going over the top now> check the temp last night before bed and it was back to 25'C as usual, my fish have come alive!!!! I also spent some time in doing a water change as it was due for one and i added some plastic plants which look soooo much better than nothing.

I gave my fishies a treat of bloodworm to say that mommy was sorry for neglecting them that day.

Thing i'm in such a rush for work/college in a morning i don't feed em till night time when i have more time but they do get a water change at each weekend.
