Just went in to check on my betta I bought saturday and his tail is damaged! :-( He deffinately 100% had nothing wrong with his tail on weekend and today I fed him some daphnia not long ago and didnt notice anything either unless I wasnt looking hard enough today and now when ive just gone in to check on him, his tail has like a puncture hole right through the middle of it, like an elongated hole and on the edge it has a split in it! :-(

What could have happened? Surely it cant be finrot acting this fast? What should I do?

I tested the water not long before I fed him and the water stats came back as:

PH - 7.6
Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 0 ppm
Nitrate - 10 ppm

Any sharp objects in the tank.
Holes in fins is usually finrot.

Thats what I thought but its happened so quickly like within hours.

He has a fake plastic wood cave and 2 fake plastic plants:

Just make sure the plants have no sharp edges on them.
If not its finrot.
Is the betta on it's own.

Melafix is only good on cuts and wounds.
Uk myxazin by waterlife for finrot.
Any other fish with the betta that could of nipped his fins.
Split in fins usually heal on there own in good water quality.
But if the betta has a hole in his fins and there no fin nipping or sharp edges, I would treat it as bacterial.

The betta is in the tank on his own :) Ill get some of that myxazin ordered anyway as its good to have to hand for the future and ill go check my tank now, thanks Wilder

Good Luck.
Hope he's better soon.

try sliding a pair of ladys nylons over all the plants and ornaments, if it snages ot catchs the nylon its too rough / sharp for the betta, silk or live plants are much nicer,

its also possible he could have split a fin do too too much flaring,, like a runner pulling a mucsle,

but at any rate the meds like wilder said will be good,

just let the lights dimed and try to give him as much ""quite"" time as possible while he recovers
