well the filter in my 47 gallon tank is bust, the motor is refusing to work so it has to be sent back to the online company i bought it from!! I have temporarily put in my enheim aquaball 2212 to keep the water filtered but there are still loads of bitss in there and it doesn't cope with the big poopers in my tank!! i will be going to my LFS this afternoon to get a replacement filter. what i need from you guys is recommendations. What filter should i get? Internel? external? what make? and roughly how much do they cost?

For an internal you can't do much wrong with a fluval plus 4
external I'd go with an ehime classic 2213 or slightly smaller.
I'm running a plus 4 in my 36 gallon and the ehime in my 72 gallon.
as for prices I have no idea one was a freebie and the other was a swap.

Hmmm interesting !! :sly: after doing research on the internet and here i am tempted by the eheim external. i have eheim aquaballs in my other tanks and they are the best, reliable, easy to clean and look good i found the fluvals harder to clean!! It will all depend on price and availabiliy at my LFS but they usually have a good choice. :p
How hard are externals to maintain and how noisy are they? -_-

And just so you know the filter that broke was a british made clear-jet 4 (made by peak aquatics) it was cheap at £15 and seemed powerful but never seemed to clean the tank completley and was akward to clean and it seems like the electircs have gone inside it!! -_- I'll never buy on the internet again!!

Aha! Where did you buy the peak aquatics filter from? I somehow ended up with a small peak aquatics tank, and I want the lighting kit for it. There's a sticker inside that says they make one for £11, but their website is junk...

Get the eheim external 2213, the classic range is superb, ive had one for 8 years and its still completly silent, i love it!

Do a search on this site, ive never heard anyone say anything bad about them

Well i got a eheim ecco external, i know a lot of people would say they are rubbish but the guy in the LFS said they were great and he has never done me wrong and neither have eheim. Plus they didn't have the classic in stock!! i've set it all up and its cleared the tank overnight, is very quiet and seems to be really easy to use. thanks to everyone for your advice. :D

the filter came from Aquatics-online
I talked to my LFS about it and he said someone is making these cheap filters and its being branded under a number of names but they are generally very bad quality!! not to sure about the quality of their lights though!!
