Hey! Just bought my very first Arowana today along with a ghost knife (i've had a few over the years... always get too big on me... BUT NOT THIS TIME!) This time I'm prepared for these fish... I think... I've got a 125 gallon tank 6ft in length (minimum recommended size for an arowana I was told) and I want to know a bit more about these fish... I've seen links posted on the BGK, any links for an arowana??? Also... is 125 gallon tank an adiquit size for an arowana? I was told it's the minimum, but would he be better off in a larger tank?

I responded to the grwoth rate question in the other forum.

I suspect that a 36" or 48" fish would not be ok in a 125g tank. I was at the Georgia Aquarium 2 weeks ago, and they had an arowana display. They were massive and very very long. The banter on this forum has always been to have the tank be at least as deep as the fish is wide. So, you would need a tank somewhere around 72"x48"x30" (I made the 30" up). That would be about 450G.

Anyhow, I'm not an arowana expert. Hopefully someone around here is.

Ty it's silver arowana :D still need to name him/her though... I was thinking of Arrow Or Klide... :p which ones better?

what are the actual measurements of the tank? most 6fts hold more than 125 gallons

I think fate got a bit confused, in another post he says its 6ft by 3ft by 2ft, so more like 240 gallons lol

yeah exactly, cant believe someone hadnt pointed this out before

your arrowana will kill anything you put in the tank, doesnt matter eh it will just kill everything.

aye if their potentialy semi to aggresive fish. Generaly if arrowanas are kept singular or in groups of less then 6 they show an excessive aggresion and at the end of the day they are predators that can fit an entire bird in their mouth. Just trying to say that a fish like the ghost knife are extremely placid and could be in danger. Oscars and similary large Cichlids like Jaguars would make fine tank mates.

so they wont kill anthing you put in the tank will they
i agree a bgk will be in danger but fate said in another thread he has a clown knife which is it fate?
