Arowana

Anything they cant fit into their huge mouths but wont attack and damage the arowana. Large catfish, stingrays, large non aggressive Cichlids (severums, earth eaters etc) and large oddballs can all work well, avoid other surface dwellers and similar shaped fish which may be attacked.

Yeah sure, the smaller shovelnose cats like Sorubim lima and Hemisorubim platyrynchos and larger Pimelodus species like P.ornatus P.albofaciatus and P.blochii all top out at under 14 inches and make great tankmates for arowana's, also oddballs like bichirs and siamese tiger fish work in a tank of that size as do Cichlids like severums and larger Geophagus/Satanoperca species.

i am searching high and low for one i can aford

well if you want them to become fish food if you want cleaners a common plec or sailfin plec will go well with an arowana but they poop quite a lot lol  what colour were you looking for I've got a friend in malaysia who's got plenty arowana and at the momment he's got green arowana's that are I think 9inches for £90

Big clown loaches would be ok but by big i mean ones over 6 inches in length. Bristlenoses are a bit of a risk, i have a large 5" bristlenose which i have been unable to catch in my 200g tank with the arowana and other big fish but i'm sure one of these days its going to end up as food.

hi again...i m no where near an expert but i do now that u should'nt keep 2 Aro's 2gether because they'll fight, i think about 6 is ok but considering the size tank u'd need lol be like a big pond !

yep that would be right Mary. Some people sometimes experiment with 3 and can work for a while but you always need to have the space to move them out if need be. From this they result in rip fins and the odd knocked off scale which personally i don't like, I like my arowana to have perfect fins.

To make a 6 aro community work you need a 300g plus tank (1 of my ambitions in life!)

Your best off trying to find a asian or black arowana as these are the most peaceful of arowanas that will fit in your tank. Jardini/australian/pearl arowana are very agresive. So you have to keep a close eye on them.

If your interested in spending a good few hundred for a red tail gold asian arowana, drop me a PM and i'll put you in touch with the guy i got mine from.

mary what do you keep with yours and any one else

My green lives with a megalodoras uranoscopus (giant raphael cat) and an assortment of bichirs.

Had a 10" sorubim lima, but it got its arse whooped every week, so i had to sell it.
