Hi

ive gone and left me light on all night in the aquarium and now ive got hairy algy how i get rid?
its taking over!

Carl.

im not sure about this i never had a problem like this .. my guess would be clean out the whole tank... but i would wait to someone else responds who had this problem.. sorry

check the phosphate level its the phophate level that detrmins the algal growth this level can depened on the level that is in your tap water the level of my tap water is very high so i have to compesate this by adding wasteconrol or anti alge treatment such as green away

To get rid of it you can:
1: Buy a bunch of flying fox fish they eat off all of it, BUT can be picked on by other fish easy.
2: Take out what has it on it and start scrubbing!

I would go for NO.2.

flying foxes will not eat thread types of algae so they may not be any good at getting rid of hairy algae and the siamese flying fox/algae eater(Crossocheilus siamensis)will eat the thread type so this fish would be better i think( ps vip where did you get your 10 ft tank )

:D no worries we all make mistakes where did you get the 10 ft tank from i have just got 8ft x 3 x 2 but would not mind getting larger tank in the aqurium (garage lol)

scary...
like Vip said, I would probably try and scrub off as much as possible, because a siamese flying fox might take a while to eat it all, since you left it on the WHOLE night
