Are They Breeding Or Fighting?

I have a question for all you knowledgable people out there.

I have a small pond in my garden, and have 7 fish in it. 2 small Lemon Goldfish, 2 small Shubunkins, 2 small Comets and a Gold Tench.

Last week one of my comets jumped out and died so yesterday I replaced it with a new one. This morning 3 of the other fish are chasing it around the pond and not giving up!

Could it be a female, and they are trying to breed (Is that what they do?) or do you think they might be attacking her?

Also, should I be putting in food for my Tench or will he be getting enough from the bottom of the pond?

How big is your pond. You only say small. I hope it's at least 350G and hopefully larger.

More than likely, you added a female. You could separate the chased fish to keep it from getting too stressed out. Did you quarantine it first? If you didn't, and it's now getting stressed out even more, it is more likely to get sick and infect the rest of your fish. Another reason to separate it now.

hi, it sounds like they are trying to breed mine jump first thing in the morning and late evenings,last year one of my goldfish was getting chased soo much she was out of breath i was worried everything turn out fine.we found a baby in my filter box and its still alive.i hope this has helped.sue
