Are plec's to big for a 10 gallon tank

I accidentally got a Sailfin pleco that grows huge, but I'm pretty sure that there are some plecos that only grow 4 or 5 inches.
I'm not sure what kind, though. :/

I have a common pleco thats in a 10 gal right now fixing to upgrade to a 55 gal, and he is almost 5 in now, and still growing

 Common plecostomus grow to about 20" or more.I can`t think of any pleco thats small enough for a 10 gal.A 4" pleco would need at least a 20 gal or more.10 gallon tank are good for neon tetras,a couple female bettas or guppies. No plecos please your tank is wayyyyyyyyy too small.Have you ever seen "African Dwarf Frogs? They`re so cool and you can have about 4 in a 10 gal with about 5 neon tetras. They eat fishflakes and freeze dried worms.I feed them the worms in the am and the flakes at night....These little guys are so funny.

Dwarf frogs are the cutest. I have a fat little blackish one and a playful lighter colored one. They pick fish food off the bottom.

Ancistrus sp. generally only get to 4" or so (with few exceptions) and Otocinclus sp. only get to a couple of inches and are good in 'gangs'. :)

clown plecs grow 4". i tried a couple but they both died within a few days. :/ I dont really know what happened. but they were in a 10 gal tank. maybe they are the right size for you?? dont forget algea wafers, they cant live on algea alone!!!! i was told to get drift wood too. hmm maybe they arent the right size for you...

:fish: I have clown plecs, but usually find myself recommending Ancistrus(bristlenosed plecs) when people ask about the smaller plecs.

I've heard varying estimated sizes on how big my clowns will get. People with smaller tanks(25 gallons or less) for some strange reason "seem" to have trouble keeping them alive.

But everyone seems to agree that bristlenoses stay small and are easy to keep.

Big plus: they are also very unique looking.

Are plects to big for a 10 gallon tank

The 10gal tank is quite small for any fish. If you like to keep plecos, buy a larger tank :)

For some Peckoltia sp. the tank could be 200 liters ~ 44-53 (uk-us gal). As you probably know, most of them need warm water, good circulation etc..

If you like to buy those bigger plecos, like Liposarcus multiradiatus, Sailfin catfish, buy a tank which is atleast 2m ~ 7 feet long and quite wide too.

I would probably buy some peckoltias other than those HUGE ones!

Clown plec's get around the 3 - 4 inch mark, Ancistrus stay get around 4-6 inches. L002 gets to be about 3-4 inches, L307, L270,L46 stay quite small under the 5inch mark of there abouts, there are some great small plec's about, Some of the big ones like sailfins need plenty of room, i have a 12 inch sailfin(gibbiceps), they can reach upto 24inches, same as common plec they can also reach the 20+ mark. Always choose the plec carefully, never go in to a et store and buy the first one as you may end up with a biggie if you unsure of the species. My local has a lovely red plec about 18inches! a little too big for me but oneday lol

anyway hope you find some! Clown plecs need company the more the merrier to keep them happy i got 4 in my tank moment about the 2.5-3inch mark and doing well!

:fish: People always say they like company but, I never see my clown plecs anywhere near each other.

I wonder if I should get 1-2 more?-_-

baseballfan is right........clown plecos are cheap and basically won't grow. probably the best way to go! Or just treat yourself to a bigger tank! :fish: :fish: :fish: :band: :band: :band: :fish: :fish: :fish:

I disagree, i have no problems keeping plecs of any kind, i have Ancistrus easy to keep
Clown plecs easy to keep in groups in a 4ft tank
Sailfin (gibbiceps) Large tank
Chocolate zebra plecs ( L270 ) now L307 wild specimens sme care as normal zebra plec.
L002 Peckoltia(PANAQOLUS sp )( tiger)
Bulldog plecs ( (Chaetostoma cf_thomasi)

good luck
