hey folks, caught two of my ndumbi red tops spinning round and round and doing the mating shiver, i thought the lighter coloured one was a male but now im not so sure, have a look and see what you think
cheers

before this video they were shivering realy slowly round each other but i didnt thin kto look for any eggs being dropped as i thought they were both male

Nope their fighting mate, the sub dom male isn't happy with his position by the looks of it and wants to be top dog lol. Dont worry about them, they will more than likely get bored and go back to doing their usual goings on :good:

How many males and females do you have James?

2 male and 2 female. they are quite funny to watch , they seem to hang out quite a bit and then fall out and chase each other for a while to see who is top dog.
cheers for clearing that up mate, kinda dissapointed though

Yeah it is funny, looks like there having a right rant! lol. Dont be, with them showing dominance to each other this could lead to them trying to attract the females and then breeding. So just keep an eye on them, something may happen soon. :good:

the dominant one is one of our fav fish and he is only one of a couple with a name. we call him "shivers" because the day he was put in the tank he would chase a fish around and then shiver for a few seconds. the other male is no were near as colourfull and thats why we thought he was female, its only lately that his red on his fins gets brighter when he gets excited

He is a very nice male, good size to. You may find that the sub-dom could turn out to be the more colourful fish, that's if the dominant male lets him (wont be any time soon looking at him :p ). Usually find the sub dom is always a cracker just hiding it due to the other male. How many fish you got in there now James? The tanks looking great, lots of colour. :good:

got 35 fish in there, was told i could house 42 but im glad i didnt as when they get bigger the tank will look heavily stocked, i might even have to move some of them to the 6 footer when i get it

Great video of a fantastic Malawi set up, I like the black substrate, shows their colours off to perfection.
