I got 1 adult female endler and 3 juvis (2 males and 1 female) by accident when the lfs guy was catching me some ottos, they were so busy he didnt realise his mistake till I was paying so he said I was welcome to have them for free if I wanted them. I'm not one to pass up a freebie even though I have the worst luck with livebearers (I blame the super soft scottish water). Anyhoos I had expected them to melt after a few days but they have thrived in my jungle of a planted tank. One of the fry even made a short accidental trip down the toilet and that didnt phase him one bit. I now have 4 adults, about a dozen juvies and about another dozen new fry.

Can the livebearer experts let me know if I have guppy mixes though? They are very small (even the females) but have a lot more guppy colouring to them. Sorry the pics are a bit crap, the tanks hard to get good pics of and the endlers never stop moving.

yeah they do look like cross breds, the middle one defiately has snakeskin guppy in it, the 1st one looks normal endler, but with a longer tail, and god knows what the 3rd one has lol, they do all look quite nice though!

i agree there defently not true endlers.

First pic is a black bar hybrid
Second pic is snakeskin hybrid a strain developed by Adrian of swampriver aquatics
Third pic not got any idea

They are all hybrids. The first has a tail that has never and will never happen on an endler. The snakeskin has only the slightest possibility when you look at its belly color but as soon as the rest of the fish becomes involved in the pattern, it screams guppy. The last has no color to him. An endler has extremely strong coloring although it has no fancy patterns. I'm sorry but all of the fish are either pure guppy strains or at best a guppy endler hybrid. That is not a real problem with the fish. Some of the prettiest endler production are the guppy endler hybrids that have been developed. A hybrid like that in the hands of a quality breeder can make a beautiful fish. If you doubt it, check out the hybrid fish offered by swampriveraquatics.

Cool well they are far too small to be pure guppies and the females lack any colour. Whatever they are I quite like them though they are reproducing like crazy.

we've never had a problem with livebearers in the scottish water!! they breed like crazy!!!

my local dobbies is selling the top one as an endler. they're tiny.

question though - where did you get the galaxy rasboras? i can't find them here and would love a few of those!

Yeh its just endlers that do ok, anything else be it platies, swords, guppies, mollies just seem to get sick and die after a few months.

The galaxies I picked up from various places, some local shops and got some off ebay. There must be at least 20 in there and some are my origionals from when they just arrived on the scene. Hardy little buggers.

only ever looked for apple snails on ebay! i'll have a look, though.

nearest shop i can find with them is 20/25 miles away. we keep saying we'll pop through, we just never do, lol!

we do need some more colourful fish in the tank, so we'll get there eventually, but after putting new fish in the tank yesterday, i'm beginning to wonder if the galaxies will be too small. can always put them in the other tank, as i'm determined to have some!

thanks
