Hello all, about 3months back I purchased a proven breeder female bristelonse plec. I then found a male to go with her at a LFS.

The trouble i'm having is that their spots don't look the same... The females spots are a white colour where as the males spots are a darker brown colour.

If they aren't the same will they still breed? I was really hoping they would. IF this is so then I Will sell one or the other and find a new partner.

Many thanks for your help,

Tim

They do look like different species, the closest match that i can find from the pics is maybe ....Ancistrus sp.-Rio Paraguay or possibly.... Ancistrus tamboensis but neither im actually convinced at tbh.

In theory i guess they could breed but my guess they probably wouldn't.

Hopefully more of a BN expert can help further, nice looking plec anyways :)

It's always hard to tell from photos! Your male bn has very dark spots! I have a breeding pair of long fin bn's. The female has very pale whiteish spots whereas the male is a much more 'yellowy' colour and has darker yellowy spots. Not alike at all! Fingers crossed for you!

I see =\

The female has given birth to the standard bristenose plecs you see in LFS's, with the white tips on the fins.

I am going to try find a different male.
