Are gerbils supposed to play dead?

When i feed him though the cage if he likes the food he'l take it but if he doesnt he falls on the floor and shuts his eyes.If i poke him he does'nt move just like hes dead.Is this supposed to happen or is he just silly?

Um...i don't know. If nobody can suggest anything, my advice is to get in touch with a rodent specialist.

Perhaps he is trying to tell you that if he was to eat what you are trying to feed him that is how he may end up!! (His veiw point- you know like we say god i think if I ate that I would just die!!)

as mentioned b4 it is natural some time but can be an indicater of an illness.
you still plan to take him to vets monday?

ive foned them and they say to give him a few days because they say they get confused by the changing weather.One minute its raining then its cold then its sunny and it affects them.I dunno weather to believe what they say or not.lol Thats probs wots up with him,probs hates the food.

I've never heard of them being affected by the weather if kept indoors
do you have him in the shed?

i just read about this, they are called Fits, or in other words small seizures. Gerbils are prone to having them and its genetic, and it said usually harmless, but id still get him checked out.
