:D i think that fish have thier own personality they always greet me when i come over to the tank (i thought they only had a 3 second memory) thats bul***T

i agree. i see stories all the time here about people who have fish that greet them and ones you can train to eat out of your hand. if something only has a 3 second memory you couldnt possibly train it.besides you only have to watch a shoal with a pecking order to know about fish personalities. dominance is a personality trait. i see it in my tiger barbs all the time

my sentimens exactly but can they take over a dog fish can live longer than a dog if we look after them my clown loach a 5 now but i know plp whos are 12yrs

I agree that fish do have personality, but I think its more of a "feed me" reaction when they see you.

Being a dog owner, there really isn't a comparison between dogs and fish, IMHO.

For many people, dogs ARE family members. Dogs are extremely loyal. Often a dogs personality will reflect it's master.

My favorite saying is: "I wish I could be the great person that my dog thinks I am" :)

I'm not even close.

Fish are great but, like comet cattle said, they don't come close to a dog.

When i pick human friends i like ones that are clean and quiet so i guess thats why clean and quiet fish are my fav pets. id rather vacuum gravel then change rodent cages or pick dog or cat hair off everything in the house.

i am a dog owner too but i also think that fish react to us in a simailr
way but not as much as a dog as dog have better brains (mammals)

Truer words were never spoken. I think fish are still great though. I dont think all fish have a 3 sec memory, but like dogs, cats and people some are more intelligent than others. I didnt realized fish had such different personalities until I had some of my own. Now I cant get enough of them. :D

 fiddlesticks we all cant get enough of them thats why wree all sat on or chair staring into the monitor chatting about fist we all have to have intrest dont we lol

well i used to have 2 ghost koi and a shabumkin (thats not spelt right i know :*) )

well they grew to big for my small net, so i started taking them out by hand. they used to swim like hell at first, but after a time they knew what was happening so they just let me lift them out.

so i'd say some fish are smarter than u think :fun:

i do agree that some fishes are smart, as evident in their movements. Ultimately, they can be anyone's best friends.
