Any advice and opinions would be great. Sorry if the pics are not great.

The one in the first pic has a week or two to go, probably; the second one looks like she's squaring off; so she should give birth within the next couple of days.

So one of the mollies gave birth over night. I woke up this morning to see her skinny self being chased by the males. I have 2 angels in the tank who I assumed had eaten all the fry, but eventually i saw two little ones that I managed to save.

My issue now is, I am away next week, and I intended to leave a feeder block for my mature fish, but now i don't know what to do about the fry :S

Any opinions?

How long are you away for? Holiday blocks are awful, don't use them, they can pollute the water really badly and you're quite likely to come home to a tank of sick or dead fish. Healthy, adult fish can easily go for two weeks without being fed.

Where are the fry now? If they're in a separate tank, they'll be fine as long as there's plenty of plants in with them as they will eat tiny bits of algae and microorganisms from them.

Thanks for the advice. I am away for 6 days. I can get someone to come in every other day to feed them instead. The fry are in the main tank in a little breeder separator. I wasn't planning on housing them but when two little survivors were hiding up at the top of the tank I couldn't help but save them.

Well...I'd pull up or chop off some of your plants and almost fill the breeder net with them. Do not let your friend put any food in there; it'll very likely pollute the water; unless your friend is a fishkeeper also; or you can trust them to follow your instrctions to the letter it's probaby better to leave them all unfed. Overfeeding by well meaning friends and neighbours kills more fish than leaving them without. I'd measure out the food into feeds and hide the rest!

Yeah I would definitely separate the meals up if i got anyone to come in. Thanks a lot flutter, much appreciated.

You're welcome; I do know what it's like with fry; I just got some free Endler's in with some marbled hatchets from my LFS; I was going to let the other fish eat them, but my kids had a little rebellion, so they've gone into my son's Edge with his three males; what's the betting the fry all turn out to be females?! :shout:

Haha i know, i am never too bothered about fry. I've had mollies and platies for over a year and never seen any fry until today. The angels are spoilt with their supper!

FWIW, it was the molly in the first picture that has given birth. The second still waiting, must be very close.

My second molly gave birth in the night, managed to capture a few survivors this morning.

what are we doing wrong....we had to leave ours in the tank for hours while went to get a breeders net with our unintentional molly fry...and still had 18 when returned!

congratulations on the birthing of your mollies, we have the opposite to yours, ours is white with black spots, I'm currently awaiting the second batch from our molly, I'm not amused to be told they can have 100+ fry and don't even need to see the male for the rest of them, I thought yes, babies out, that's it....burst my bubble good it did!
