I am not complaining. I like my PetSmart although it isnt perfect.

I really wanted some black and white cories. I've seen them at several local pet stores and was determined to get some. I went to PetSmart Friday and they had two left in a tank labeled "spotted cories". I bought them of course. They promised more would come in on Thursday. One was much smaller than the other and not very active. He died the very next morning. :-( I'm thinking he was a juvy and just couldnt handle being relocated twice in two days. Thanks to catfishworld, I'm pretty sure my little guy is c. ambiacus.

Everything I've read says cories need friends so I went back Thursday. The new "spotted cories" were a little bigger and a little fatter but quite active. The plan was to get 2 or 3 but as I had enough money in my pocket, I impulsivley bought FIVE. :fish: I get them home and right away I know they are different from ambi. Another visit to catfishworld and I'm pretty sure these are c. schwartzi. I really should have seen the difference before I bought them.

I have more than I planned on already but I was there were so many and they I could not resist.
If I ever go in search of more I would definitely take a picture of Ambi with me. Why didnt I think of that the first time????

My question is, should I look for more ambiacus or will the schwartzi suffice for him as tank buddies? They seem to be hanging out. He hid in the log for the first couple of hours but now he pretty much back to normal, and sometimes he hangs out with a small group of the schwartzi. I really do not want more but i want what is best for ambi. He is still the prettiest.

Any suggestions?

Hi OpalHeart :)

Your little ambiacus is one lucky fish! Even though he doesn't have friends of his own species, he will spend his future with sociable corys of another species, and enjoy good food and a clean and healthy tank.

If you can find another one or two of his kind, and can house them safely, by all means get them. If not, don't worry too much over it. If not for you, he might have wound up all alone at the bottom of someone's goldfish tank. ;)
