Are Black C.aeneus Rare

just wondering if black c aeneus are rare

they are not Rare perhaps... but more, hard to breed/ hard to come by and VERY hard to get in the stores! Even if you do manage to find some, they will cost you an arm and a leg.

iv just got myself 3 adult black corydoras from ebay they was under c aeneus i didnt know you can get them i black.
i dont like mail ordering fish but though it was worth me biding for them as iv never seen them anywere near me before
the seller didnt know if they were male or female so fingers crossed iv got both i paid £23 for the corydors and £9 mail deliverd so thats £32 all together.
ill find out later what day ill be geting them and ill put some pics on when i get them

Congratulations ! You've found one of my very favorite fish! They are not called C. aeneus anymore, however, but C. schultzei.

They're not common, but since they are line bred, you are more apt to find them online or get them through acquaintances, than to buy them at a lfs. I've heard they might be slow to start breeding, but once they have started, they are prolific spawners.

Lots of luck with them. I'm looking forward to seeing pictures.

i have asked at my lfs before and most of the didnt know what i was on about lol.
iv wanted some for ages and just by the off chance i looked on ebay carnt wait to get them now
should be here in the next couple of days just waiting for a email to say what day.
if i have got male and female as the seller didnt really know .
this will be my next project to spawn them.
im just sorting out my growing on tank im doing it all out tomorrow,as iv give most of my pepper babies away now so they are going in there with 6 stebias and about 6 small peppers with loads of plants and bog wood and other bits and bobs

Did you ask the seller if he had any more for sale? If you can afford to get more of them, by all means do so. It would be a sad thing if you lost one of them and ended up with two of the same gender.

How are they going to be shipped? If you can get them to you overnight, it's worth the extra expense, especially if it's very cold in the area they have to travel through. Also, if it is cold, ask if he'll send them with a heat pack, to be on the safe side.

Not sure if these are the same type but their is some black ones near me for 5.95 each at a local aquatics store as seen here.
