Are Biorbs Noisy?

I find the original Reef One pumps to be a pain...noisy after time and prone to travel  I have 3 biorbs and have modified my 15L and the 60L one, just for the fun of it. The 30L is still run as stock and is my least troublesome tank. If you completely ignore most fo the Reef One instructions, cycle the tank fishless and stock with suitable small slim bodied fish and not goldfish and maintain it well, you should have a happy tank with healthy fish.

It's well worth scouting about on Ebay for a biorb. I got my new ones from the Ebay shop Aquacadabra and can't fault their prices or service. I have also bought biorbs second hand before and been largely happy with the price and condition of them :D

Ptyson21...you got pm :D

Cheers, I have joined that forum but the ppl selling will only take pick up and live way too far away. I have been talkin to someone who is selling one on ebay and it didnt meet the reserve. She want £45 for a brand new 30l biorb, however it does not have a halogen light and no heater. Is this a reasonable price?

That sounds like a reasonable price Paul! If you look for a heater set and either a halogen light or i-light (these are cool as they do a moonlight phase with sunrise and sunset too) it can sometimes work out cheaper than buying a complete set up :D That's what I did with my first 30L biorb. I bought a new one that was a cold water set up and then bought the i-light and heater kit separately.

Think I'll email the woman asking for it for £45 then. Just got a brand new heater kit for £6 using my ebay voucher that gives you £10 off for using paypal. Well happy with that. Are the intelligent light costly and worth it?
Paul

i have joined that forum too, and was reading about the i light, and apparently they are worth every penny, so im pleased i got one with my 60L, they range from about £35 on ebay i think, so not bad
shelagh xxxx

hia jenny, we meet again

So in your experience they are worth it? I will be buying the tank for no more than £45 then I have the light on top of that which will be £35 and I bought the heater pack which was £6, so all in all it will cost £85 for a tropical 30l biorb with intelligent lighting, that worth it? Also how is the lighting in relation to growing real plants?
Cheers

You can get an i-light on Ebay from Aquacadabra for around £35 and I would say they are definately worth every single penny! Thetanks look great with the moonlight phase on and I have to say the led light is somewhat better than the halogen lights. Don't expect to be able to grow millions of plants in the biorbs though. The style of flitration being similar to undergravel stylee makes it hard for rooted plants to grow well. Anubias nana, java ferns (both on bog wood or rock) and moss balls are good choices though :D
hia jenny, we meet again

Yoo hoo Shelagh!

I bought one for £36, tried to get a discount like with the heater but it never worked so I have to pay the full price, atleast I havent been left pondering whether to buy it or not, cos i take ages to decide on these things!! Now all i need is my tank, waiting for the woman to get back to me, then ill go pic it up.
cheers
Paul

I just got my biorb of that woman for £45 and it turns out that it does have a halogan light unit with it. What I dont understand is, does the i-LED light unit that I have bought work along side with the light unit or do you use one or the other? Dont understand.
Gonna go down the beach soon and grab some stones, wanna give my biorb the natural look!!

Cheers
Paul

pretty sure its one or the other.as they are both the size shape, but mine hasnt flippin showed up yet, and i dont have one one my 30L, the i-light, does the full cycle of day night and can be prgrammed, if you dont need both i would sell the other and get some of your cash back.. i am really looking forward to mine arriving as i have my 30L in my bedroom, and its bugs me having algae in there as the only time i see it is bedtime, and always forget to turn the light iof ( uness i have had the hairdryer plugged in Ooops)(( piccys remeber!! lol))

So you not have problems sleeping with it in your room, (a) with the moonlight and (b) with the air pump?

I will be using water from my other tank to fill it up so ill be able to put fish in it soon, will post pics soon with my progress.

no way, never had problems.its on my bedside cabinet and i love it there, some say the filter pump can be noisy, but hand on heart the only time i had this problem was when i bumped it in the night and dropped it on the floor, other than that it sits behind it(on solid wood table) and makes very little noise, keep your eye out for a spare pump, as lots have said they have problms with them and should you have any ,you wouldnt need to wait, bet you have a few of them hanging about tho if your anything like the rest of us on here
but i have been totally honest with regrards to the fact it has never disturbed me by being noisy

Yip you are right, I do have a spare pump so Ill be fine with that. One problem I am having is the light wire isnt very long at all so it doesnt reach where im puttin it, that why I wanted to know if I would not beusing the halogen light unit when I get the LED one, do you only use one or the other?

Paul

well mine showed up yesteday, and its a fact that you only use one or the other
i have pinched my i light and put it on my 30L,as i have no plans for the 60L yet.. im really inpressed with it, the tank looks crystal clear with the i light and i love the ripple effect that it gives off
but yes definaltly one or the other, read the instructions for the i light and set the timer, i tried when i was dog tired last night and ended up with moonlight for about 5 mins and daylight all night
so i will have another crack at it today
