ok to explain what happened you have to know how my tank is set up.
i have a betta condo and 4 bettas. originally the tank was divied with one on each side, and the other two were in different 1 gal tanks. we decied that the divder didnt look good so i got the condo. the plan was to take out all dividers and just put one in thier execpt when cleaning the 1gals put the betta in then take it back out.
well did that and the bettas got depressed so put the three in their own little condos in the tank, no probs so far.
i was sitching who got to be in the big tank and who got to be in the condos.
no probs till the other night. i wake up and my veil tail bob has some how jumped out ( i thought i had it rigged up so that they couldnt') and beat the snot out of shedder ( as were now calling him) the poor guy was hiding under the fake tree stump. :-( so i put him back in his 1gal treated him and made sure he was eating then i scooped up bob and put him back in his condo.
now heres the questions
1. bob jumped out again ( no one was out ) he was always the one in the big tank. why did he jumped out? none of the others have even tried plus the others were out before and we had no probs. any ideas? bob has never show much aggression before not even really flaring at the others.
2. other then keeping the 1gal clean, medicated agaisnt infections and making sure his eating anything else i should do? any hope for his fins, any thing to help them?
thanks a bunch

betaas jump for alll reasons, water might be bad of confused some jump out out by accident

coouldve tryed to get to the other betta and successfuly did it.Bad water....Ermmmm for the fun of it...

i've heard that a lot of the time bettas will jump because they're not happy with where they're at. kind of makes sense, if you think about it. in the wild, if a betta's in a pond that doesn't have enough food or someone to mate with, he's going to jump out and wiggle over to another pond. i had a betta jump when i had him in a smaller container for cleaning, so i think he wasn't happy with the size of his "pond" and went in search of a bigger one.
i'm pretty sure that with medication, his fins will grow back in time.

That just happened to me recently! I was cleaning my bettas tank so I planned on putting him in a smaller container for about 10 min or so but no, he jumped out right after i put him in, the silly littly guy wanted to be back in his spacious home

For advice on your jumping betta Channing, make sure everything in the betta's water is normal and healthy other than that I'm not too sure!

i've had one jump out when he saw me walk into the room, jumped out when i went to feed him, change his water- he was a jumper.

just glad Bob's ok :)

unfortunately when it happened to me, i was letting his water cool down a little bit, so i walked out of the room (i was studying for a physics test at the same time). when i came back, i couldn't find him. then i realized he had jumped out and rolled underneath a plate that was on the counter. i put him back in, but he was swimming funny and the next day i found him dead. :-( i think he injured something internally when he jumped. my mom had to drive all the way up to my dorm room at 6 a.m. because i couldn't bear to take him out of his tank by myself. when she got there, i was just curled up in a ball on my bed bawling my eyes out. it was a very horrible experience, which is why i ALWAYS recommend putting lids on your containers whether it's just for a 10 minute cleaning or it's their permanent home.

Bettas can and will jump if they see another male. Always have a lid over the sections, and ideally they shouldnt be able to see each other

when i bought barbie he was labeled as a female but later on after putting him in the big tank with the rest of the girls i came to find out he was a boy so i took him out and put him in a bowl for the time until i could find a tank or something bigger to put him in.....while i was searching for something to put him in he had jumped out and twenty minutes later i came into the room to find an empty bowl and no fish! he disappeared and to this day i have no clue where the hell he went! :(

will is a bold statement. all of my boys can see at least one other (yes they do have places to "get away" from each other. some have lids, some don't. i have never had a jumping problem. the one's without lids i got the tanks before i read they may jump. no problems still.

unfortunately, i have heard of people keeping their fish in a certain arrangement for several months to a year, when the fish jumped for no apparent reason. i still say it's best to not take any risks. having a fish jump is a HORRIBLE experience and i want to do everything i can to save people from going through that.

I agree Laura, it's not worth the risk.
I've had my community tank set up for nearly a year and had no problems but whilst doing a water change, a Harlequin jumped right out. Never had this happen before!
Luckily, I managed to get him straight back in the tank and he was fine.
Just because they don't jump for whatever length of time, doesn't mean it won't ever happen!
