I bought a betta just over a week ago, to parade my fluval edge, he was homed with platy fry several weeks old which at 1st he would chase then give up quickly, and amano and cherry shrimp, he seemed happy for several days and then when i got home from work i noticed his tail fin had been damaged quite bad and he had a full outbreak of ich, all the water conditions were perfect but still i changed 50% of the water daily and treated him to fin rot and ich treatment, in the last few days he had been ignoring any type of food, bloodworms etc but with the treatment seemed to be losing some of the whitespot and showing more activity, the platys had no sign of ich at all, well today he just suddenly dropped to the bottom of the tank and died whilst i was about to do an emergency water change. The water has now been changed so the shrimp and platy are fine, but with all variables fine, what else could i have done to help him?
Are Betta's more vulnerable than any other fish?, i know platys are hardy but my main tank i have rams, platys, mollys, silver sharks, rainbow fish, horseface loaches amongst others and have had no issues at all.

i assume he had damaged himself on an ornamental hansel and gretal style house which had fake plants on, so i removed this!
