Does anyone know the suitable tank size, and parameters, for a couple of archer fishes? I've got aphids/greenfly infesting my tanks' water plants!

Are they active swimmers, territorial, non-community, or easy to be victimized?

Thanks :)

Archer fish are brackish fish that will grow up to 10" and should only be kept with other large semi aggressive brackish fish like scats and mono's etc, they are certainly not recomended for general comunity tanks as they will quickly empty the tank of any fish that will fit into their huge mouths. Aphids and greenfly would be a little too small for archerfish which preffer larger prey like crickets, meal worms and fish.

They'll defenitely eat small fish like guppies, but I kept 2 archerfish along with a school of fire tetras(?) and some needlenose gars, a few ottos, as well as an old angelfish. They weren't aggressive or anything, usually just kept to themselves no chasing mild mannered. I never got them to jump or spit though. :/ They were great fish and perhaps my favorite were it not for the gars' feeding style. However, I only had them for about a year. I had to abandon my aquarium, which had been years in the making (well not really, I didn't know much back then), but it was so awesome, the fire tetras looked like piranahs with the way they would attack their food, the gars were all stealthy albeit somewhat aggresive if I remember correctly but still great, and the archerfish were just the perfect addition. Sadly, now i have just a 20g with a 4 zebra danios one of which is a gimp, and one female guppy cus the male died. Kindof a throwback, but it's ok since it's been a few years since I had an aquarium and now I'm really more interested in aquascaping (or rather attempting to aquascape).

These archers are one of my favorite, I have a school of them, hard to fine fish around here, but I got them B) They love shrimp/guppies, and worms as well, very calm fishes, till you feed them, then they turn into little phiranas, a very recommended fish, especially when they are small, and in a group.

You should put some rocks in, they like to "sit" under them and watch what's happening above the water on the other side of the tank, also if there is enough rock surface area then you can put some mudskippers with them.

That's true, otos = no salt.

But archer fish can be kept temporarily in FW when juveniles, they eventually need to be moved to brackish though.

P.T.
