Arc Tanks ?

I think im just going to get the Arc~ 35L, Make it into a little project for the lid etc.

What kind of aquascape do you need for cherry shrimp?

Bogwood, plants, java ferns, java moss, few caves, there needs are fairly simple, just ensure the tank is completely cycled, because they will not tolerate any trace of ammonia or nitrIte and make sure you use no copper based meds in the tanks or the plants you use have not been soaked in a copper solution some LFS/online stores use to keep their plants snail free as copper will kill shrimp.

Ok - If I buy a brand new tank, Cut some filter from my big tank, do a like 50% change of filter sponge to each - then it should be ok. I will have to be very careful about plants then. My LFS lie alot.

Providing your filter media is completely mature, then you can use 1/3 of it to cycle a new filter, replace what you take out of the mature filter with new, then yes you can add fresh clean dechlorinated water to the new tank with the cycled media and add the shrimp immediately.

You can do a bleach wash of the plants to be on the safe side, although having never done this myself, check on the unit of bleach to water ratio first.

Mine is fine, they come with some media in them, mainly carbon, so take that out and just put some mature sponge in, they also have little spraybars if you feel like using it, helps to adjust the flow, point it towards the tank glass so the shrimp dont get blown around.

on the 25 there rubbish well mine was i got the one out of the 35 with the little spary bar aswell (lol my lass thought it was cute lol)

Its a bit like hard work but I had an open topped tank with evaporation issues (marks etc).

what I did was to go to my local Glasiers -glass makers , my spelling is probably wrong (look in yellow pages for local one) with dimensions of my tank and they made 4 strips of glass for me from offcuts (so was really cheap!).

When I got home I simply used silicone to attach the 4 pieces together, let them dry and then glued a home made hinge (made of 2 pieces of old mahohony hinged together) onto the back of the tank using silicone, and connected the new "holy" lid on top.

This prevented evaporation yet left the centre of the tank accessible. My edges were around an inch wide but you could make them wider or narrower, or even have a plain glass sheet on top. Just make sure the edges have been sanded (beveled) to ensure there are no sharp bits and be sure the dimensions are slightly larger than those of the tank itself or the cover will drop inside.

Flat edges would also prevent shrimpies from bye-byes "Oh look - Ive escaped!)".

I think thats a bit to much work

I think I will just get a condensation sheet to size.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, there is another tank which looks very like the arc, but has a much more close fitting lid. It's this one.
You can see the lid well in this pic

Only snag is they are quite hard to find. My most LFS has them in, and I've seen them in one more. The online link might ship though?
I so wish I'd seen this tank before I bought mine!

Would end up costing me £70 - well my girlfriend. Its hard enough getting £50 of her :p - I think I will just get the Arc
