Hi.

I've been looking at these filters and I'm just wondering if anyone has one and knows if the cartridges that come with them are sealed, or if they can be opened and the media replaced/cleaned.

I suspect that they are probably sealed and disposable, but the website isn't clear, so would be grateful if someone that has used them can advise.

Looking at those filters, depending on the model they come with 'fiber', 'activated carbon, 'coarse foam' and 'aqua clay' cartridges.

Of those, the foam and aqua clay should last for years, rarely needing replacing. It's only when they crumble or disintegrate.
Carbon isn't needed routinely, I always take that out of a filter.
The 'fiber' cartridge sounds like filter floss. That will need replacing regularly, but it can be replaced with just filter floss, it doesn't need to be in a cartridge.

So, whether they can be opened or not, it doesn't really matter.

I don't use carbon either, and you are probably right on the clay balls, but the foam, whilst it would last for years, would defo need to be accessible for cleaning, so if they are sealed then that would be a problem.

I could just cut some foam to size and use it without cartridges of course.

Looks like it. The fibre cartridge is recommended to be replaced weekly, and the cartridges are about £5 for two on amazon UK! So that would be £130 a year just for that.
