Aquarium Salt

well first off my doctor has me gargle with salt water whenever I have a sore throat, and my folks have always soaked in epson salt for wounds. Not sure why but seems to work. :)

Scales have absolutely no bearing on a fish's salt tolerence, it is down to their osmoregulatory functions. Some can deal with salts ok, others have their kidneys badly affected by it.

This is my understanding as well tho I did add salt in with my cories before I new about this around 7 years ago. They are all still with me a beautiful active fish so hopefully no harm done.

how often is it safe to add salt to the aquarium

salt does not evaporate so it is only removed thru water changes. Make sure you disolve the salt, and add it slowly. If you want to keep the tank with a level of salt all the time, then you would add exactly what you take out with each water change.
