Aquarium Conditions - Guppies

My males never grew huge and were always so fragile, rehomed them recently. Will see later if I can catch them, should manage one of them without tearing up my plants.

Or do what I'm doing, get a video of them next to a ruler instead. A clear video would be just as helpful and is easier to get

Sorry to disagree with you since you seem like your an authorative member:).

i would say that you have too many fish in that tank.

Nope.

34 fish in a 25g is too many. His fish would probably be better of in a 75-90g. He could probably get away with a 40g if he does a lot of water changes but with that many fish I don't think a 25g is enough swimming room.

Pleco's will grow to around 7" if you have the common pleco. so with that size of an adult pleco they would over crowd your tank very fast.

Common Pleco's get to about 2ft long. Bristlenose pleco's get to about 8-10" max so 2 of those would be OK. If they are Commons... You need to re-home them. All in all, pleco's are pretty messy but with a good filtration system they are OK

Pleco's and Goldfish are poop machines:). Commons you definitely need to rehome. They get to 2' and need 120g. If you have sailfin plecos you should also rehome them because they get pretty close to 2' too however they are rarer.

However, first of all bristlenose's don't get 8-10". The majority of them are around 5". You could keep 1, maybe both of your plecos in that tank if there bristlenose however you'll need to be serious with the water changes.

get an otocinclus, they do a great job, are not dirty and are fun to watch so bonus.

Very bad advice for someone who is having trouble with their water parameters... Oto's don't do very good in new tanks and should always be in groups of at least 3 as they like to group together. Plus they can be tricky to keep alive once they have eaten all the algae as not all algae pellets/wafers have the correct nutrients in them.

I agree with you. I've kept them alive with a mix of 2-3 different types of wafers, however I believe they should be kept in larger thanks where they will have enough algae.

The guppies will breed, ALOT! Same with the mollies. Unless you have all male livebearers which I'm guessing you don't due to having fry then you will soon become overstocked by the guppies and mollies alone...

They probably will breed alot but since he's already overstocked so he won't 'soon be' overstocked. You could try returning all your females. That'll remove your overstocked problem and make it so that you won't have fry. However in your current setup I would guess most fry will get eaten anyway.

You've added all these chemicals to your tank and the thing is, none of them actually work... It's a way of scamming money out of you. Your best option would be to buy yourself a liquid test kit like the API Master Test Kit which means you can test your water daily whilst at home and keep everything in check with large waterchanges whenever there is a single sign of Ammonia or Nitrite as these are dangerous. Did you cycle your tank before adding fish? This is an improtant step as this gives your filter chance to build up bacteria that eats the Ammonia and Nitrite.

Yup... most don't work. Get the test kit, however from what I've seen your tank isn't cycled. Wait it out while add prime daily. Adding live plants can also help you.

Didn't get to trying a photo yesterday as I was busy, might need to wait until the kids are back at school Wednesday. I would try the video but its not very useful if the fish are at the back of the tank and the ruler would be up close to the camera! LOL They'd look tiny!

Ah but most of them are small fish :)
The biggest are the pleco's. I'm just going by experience because my partner has a Juwel Rio 300 that is quite nicely stocked with;
9x Angelfish
2x Snakeskin Gourami
Between 10-20 Brochis(started with 20 I think)
Between 30-45 Emperor Tetras
4x Platies(male)

I think I'm missing something but I'll edit my post if I am :)

when you take the photo you need the ruler close up /next to the fish to get the true size

I think the question here is what is the type of filter installed in this tank as one possibility is the filter is not coping with the bioload if you wish to keep these all.
Have you done any changes recently, washed filter, too much cleaning, possible chemicals in the tank, etc...that may have caused a spike?
Keep up with large water changes in the mean time. And maybe get a good external filter that has enough space for media to cope with larger bioloads and not cause spikes or install a second filter, DIY sponge filter or anything you can afford.

Luckily my guppies were happy to swim past the ruler XD

I didn't forget twice... only just didn't manage any useful pictures. I tried in the net next to a sewing tape measure (only sort of "ruler" I have), but only having 2 hands I couldn't hold all in place and she kept jumping out of line.

I tried in a bag of water but she just ended up looking distorted and deformed in all my photos. By my eye, she came to about 9cm (my sewing tape measure only has cm on it and not inches).

That's 3.5" which is this long...

Around abouts.. Here's a ruler XD
