Aquarium Building Question

thanks Helen, later this summer as these projects start coming together im planning on creating a couple of planted aquarium journals and uploading pics to that. wish me good luck :good:

ok i know this doesnt show up here in the forum so ur gona have to follow the link. ill figure this out later. im just amazed i even got a photo site to work for me at all. so after you have a look at the diagram let me know if you see any potential problems with it. and i didnt draw it but all supports are 1 inch down from the top rim of the sides of the aquarium. if you have any questions about the design let me know but i think i was meticulous enough to get all the important details, well orgainized too.

sorry but that's really weird. Looks like a lot of work and not sure what it's meant to help.
The supports are 1 inch down from the top edge because of the I beam. Get rid of that and have a 1/4 inch piece of glass that is 4inches wide and just run it straight across the tank. It will be less work and you won't lose as much space because the supports will be closer to the top edge, (only 1/4 inch down)
And the two middle cross members should be further apart. You want them as evenly spaced as possible to minimise bowing along the front and back edges. If you only support it in the middle then the glass can bow a bit between the middle and the end.

ok i can do that. but the general idea of leaving those spaces along the back to fit in a HOB filter or something else.... would that work? basically replace the I beams with what you said and just leave it like that. i really need that space.

LOL, fingerpainting 1.01
first lick your finger.
next put your finger in the paint. then wipe your finger on the wall and make pretty patterns :)

I still don't know how Cory Dad did that. I know he explained it but I just haven't got a clue. Sorry Cory Dad but me noey comprenday

Sorry for not being clearer but putting in the exact command causes the CMS system to mangle the example.

You know if you reply to the actual post and you see the quote ...... /quote html tags around the actual quote (but with square brackets around the wourd quote)?

Same idea except that instead of using the html quote tag you use the html img tag arounf the linke to the image.

Again its: img then-the-url-to-the-actual-image /img

but you need to put opening and closing square brackets around the img and /img tags.

Maybe if you reply to this post you'll see how it's done.

Cheers.

You can shorten the support strips that run along the back if you like. It weakens the structure a little but the tank isn't very high to start with so it won't make any real difference.
If you need shorter support straps then only shorten them as much as is necessary.
If you want coverglass then you will need to add a couple more support straps to the cross members. These are glued under the cross member so they are level with the supports running along the front and back of the tank. Likewise the supports on the ends of the tank should be at the same level.

Many of the bigger HOB filters have a bit of room for them to overhang support straps. Check the space on your filter and see how much room you actually have. The Aquaclear 70 has about 20mm (3/4 inch) between the filter and the lip it hangs with.
