OK, after thinking about it a lot and discussing with my wife, the decision has been made
 
It will be a male red or blue betta.

It's such a bad thing to do to someone's self: going to the LFS "for a walk"...
 
I saw some amazing glowlight tetras yesterday.
 
I am now rethinking the betta as I also got a second 30L tank which hasn't got anything in it (not even water).
Could I put a school of glowlight tetras as a one species only tank in the 51L?
If so, how many?

yes i suppose you could do 7 but there is argument over swimming room of course.
