Hi, I got a EFX300 a few months ago with our new tank, and it really didn't like starting with it above the water, much prefered to be just under the surface.

I also found that if the join in the intake pipe that goes into the tank was above water, or wasn't sealed, the pump sucked in air as well as water and made a lot of racket.

At the mo i dont seem to be having a probs with the pump itself, just the spray bar making noise when the srpay hits the water. I spoke to some one yesturday as they used to have a spray bar and they said they were told when they bought it that its ment to sit above water. One thing i did notice is that the outlet pipe sits better inside and outside the tank when the spray bar isnt too low. So may stick with this for a while as it seems to be oxygenating the tank well and see how i get on.

Have the spraybar an inch below then water surface pointing slightly upwards so it ripples the surface for maximum oxygen transfer.

No need to have it above the water level, i never understand why people do that?!

Have had a look today and should be able to to raise the water level slightly to get it to sit just below so will try that. Its abit off putting when watching tv having to listen to water spraying like mad  cheers all will let you no the end result.
