Back in 2015 I've participated the 3 week exhibition "AquaHortus2015". This was organized on the occasion of the 425th anniversary of the Hortus botanicus in Leiden, the Netherlands. It was an international exhibition that showed several vivariums, such as biotope tanks, cultivated tanks, paludaria and terrariums filled with relevant animals. Outdoors a series of tanks were shown that represented wild life of the North Sea and local waters.
This exhibition has only been organized a low number of times from back to the 1800's up till 2015. So, it's already an honor to be part of it when it's not kept that often. It maybe still take another 10 or 20 years before a next edition will be organized.
At some point I got the lead of the whole livebearer section. before and after the exhibition, I was also quite busy overthere. It's quite a job to get it all done. It's one of my top experiences of my aquatic hobby.
Here are some videos of this exhibition.

We had some problems with this tank. The cardinal tetras weren't schooling sufficiently. So, we made a call to a dutch wholesaler) which was also one of the sponsors) to ask for a number of angels. Once they've arrived and put in this tank (after some acclimation), we've solved the problem. The cardinal tetras started to school from left to right and back.

You are lucky. I hope you realize that. Some of us will never see anything like that. That is totally awesome. I especially liked the tale of the Angelfish and Cardinal Tetra's . How many of the Cardinals have the Angels eaten so far ?

This was already back in 2015. And none of those cardinals were eaten by the angels. The tank itself was 3 meters long. I also do have to admit that not all angels will eat cardinal tetras. Our idea was to put in some dominant fish to let those cardinal tetras school which they didn't do before.

I was fortunate to be able to attend a number of serious vivaristic events throughout these years. So yes, I am aware of it that I got lucky to be in that position. But the fact that I'm asked for certain events has got to do with my aquatic/vivaristic background. I've created a serious name when it comes to vivaristics with a special focus within the aquaristic field throughout the years. To be asked for serious events (national and international) gives me the feeling that I am seriously appreciated in this specific aquatic world. And what I do within this field is a real contribution to the aquatic world. One of the things I feel comfortable with...
It's one of those things my parents taught me and I'm glad that they brought me in this world of aqua life... They already started with this hobby before I was even born.

That's the kind of thing they have in Europe. One of the benefits of sophisticated civilization the USA lacks.
I'm not really familair with the relevant events in the US.

There are no events like yours in the USA. Nothing that elaborate or advanced. The USA is light years behind Europe when it comes to activities like your Aqua Hortus event.
Then it's time for some change... Don't you think...?

Yes it is but it will never happen. Apathy rules supreme here. True , there are shows and conventions like the American Killifish Association annual convention but we are cliquish here. The cichlid people warily eye the Livebearer people and everyone stays in his own village. Clubs are dying and the younger generation are not joiners. Europe is cosmopolitan and always has been. Europe embraces beautiful things and attaches a premium to them. Seeing something like the Aqua Hortus is a pipe dream for us over here.

Well, fingers crossed and that things may change for the better...
