Has anybody out there ever have their hang on filters overflow on them?. I've heard that they can sometimes get clogged up and empty a lot of water. I'm assuming this would only happen if the filter wasn't kept clean. Thanks.

Yes happens at times in my firty tanks. Sponge media gets clogged up and most of the water flows right over the divider back into the tank...

Quick wash in a bucket of tank water fixes the problem nicely... ;)

So the water doesn't flow out of the filter from the top? I thought that the lid would come off and it would empty outside of the tank.

My 2 aquaclears leak all the time, and not back into the tank, onto the carpet throught the floor and downstairs!!! they suck, i have 3 powerfilters, 2 aquaclear and one dolphin, which neva leaks, they were clever over at dolphin and designed it so the back of the filter is taller than the front and so water leaks into tank WOW would that have been so hard for aquaclear to do. Instead the make stupid cover that blow off with a wisper and leak over 50 liters a night!!!

I HATE AQUACLEAR

I don't have a problem with Aquaclear. You must be doing something wrong for them to leak all the time. They must be clogged.

The leak I'm talking about isn't about water leaking out of the filter on to the floor!

These filters have built in mechanism so that if your sponge media is too clogged, water will simply by-pass and drop straight back into the tank. You should never see any water dripping on the floor regardless of the state of the filter...

That's good to hear. It's been keeping me up at night worrying about it. Thanks :D

hey, bob' your dog, when you first got the filter, did you notice a little black strip of plastic sticking off of the motor facing the front? my friends cut these off,not knowing what they are for. these are to hold the filter upright, and they rest against the back glass of the tank. if you have these sticking out properly, the filter should only overflow back into the tank. btw, i hate aquaclear too. they may floe nicely, but they are poorly built and arent strong. i especially hate the way the siphon tube almost breaks each time i remove it,they should fix that.
