As the title says. I am putting together a 55gal cichlid tank. I am looking at using either.... 1 AC 110 or 2 AC 70 or 2 Emperior 280. Any preference to brand or using multiple filters. I'm leaning towards the set-up w/ 2 AC 70 at opposite ends. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. :D

I had the Emperior 280 on my 37 gallon. I didn't like it because it did not seem to filter out all of the floating stuff in the tank. What I mean is that the water that came out still had stuff in it. I now run two Rena 30 Smart Filters which do an excellent job.

Thanks for the reply Glassman. I considered using Rena filters but they seem like they might be expensive to keep up. Is that true? I was leaning more toward the Aqua Clear but I did like the compartments on the Renas. I asked in another thread about Rena HOB's but didn't get any feed back. It seems that alot of people use either Fluval internals or cannisters here. Any info you could give me would be great.

Thanks again.

IMO Aquaclear is the best HOB/power filter on the market. The reason is that you have media options, the sponge/bio-media/carbon is all separate and you can leave the carbon out and add more bio-media if you want, plus they give a good turnover. :good:

Hey dthoffset.... you following me :grr: :grr: :grr: :p Thanks for that input. I read your post on my cichlid thread. Hopefully I can find some metriaclima callainos to go alone with tha yellow labs.

mmmuuuuaaaaahhhhhhaaaaa I'm a stalker. :fun:  Good luck trying to find the callainos, you might ask your LFS if they are willing to order them for you, if not mail-order is always an option. :good:

I've never mail gotten ordered fish. How does the whole process work....other than the obvious. Return policy? Health issues? Best stores to order from w/ good reps?

Thanks.

Most online stores have set days they ship (and most only ship overnight) so you'll need to have someone present to sign for them. Almost all of them have a set policy for acclimating and procedures for DOAs (like you must take a pic of the fish dead in bag with in 2 hours and e-mail/call). I've had good luck with www.petsolutions.com , in fact, that's where I got my first group of mbuna (including callainos). I've also heard that www.liveaquaria.com is good but haven't used them personally. :good:

Once again, thanks for the info. I will give both places a look. It may be the only way to get the right combo for my tank if I can't find a good enough place around here. I am gonna go check out a store today that seems to have a pretty good rep and selection and I think they will order fish too. Can't hurt to take a look.
