OK little story....

...My aqaurium had finally completly cycled after almost exactly one month. Unfortanatly I had to go away for a few days. SO I decided I would add the fish when i came home. I had esked a family member of mine who lives in the house hold to add amonia for me. I exdplained why it wa so important, I even called home to remind him. I later found out that he let it sit over 48 hours before he added it, after I told him not to do that. I Come home and test the water, redings very high for amonia. I thought maybe he added to much to recently. I test 24 hours after that and it is the same thing. Now I want to Murder someone because all of my hard work has just gone to waste!!!!!!!!! I am not bother redoing it!! I mjust throwing it int he trash!!!!!!! so $250.00 and over almost 2 months of hard work were a waste of money. No to mention the cost is about 3 weeks of earned income for me so it more like I worked 3 months and have no achievements!!!!

The hell witht his ####!

Why has your hard work gone to waste? You are just set back a week or so in your schedule. Monitor the readings and you should be ok. Will give you a bit longer to save up for some fishes!

Don't be disheartened! We all have set backs sometimes!

Heck, just empty the water.....toss in a few hardy goldfish and cycle it the Old Tyme way.

In my opinion, a fishless cycle is a waste of time and patience. (Just my opinion) Too much of a pain for me. Most who do a fishless cycle are worried about sacrificing fish. Well, as long as you monitor the water conditions and add the proper things to negate the adverse affects, you will be fine. I've been cycling with fish for 20 years and have MAYBE....MAYBE lost 2 fish in that whole time. If you want to know how I do my cycle I'd be glad to tell you.......attention to detail is Number. 1.

Don't give up.......the rewards are worth the heartache once your tank becomes "Aged".

I hope your rite.

bnts its hard to believe that since my nitrite finally came down to 0 after 2 and 1/2 weeks. im afraid it will take that long again to reform.

Grab some BioSpira and throw in some of the hardier fish you were going to put in there anyways. This was you cycle your tank and start with some fish you want to keep anyways.

Throwing away all that money and time over someone else setting you back some time makes me think you got into this out of impulse. Makre sure you really want to do this before you spend anymore money.

no i spent time fishless cycling for a reason. im not gonna change my plans... i just to busy to let it upset me now.

get some biospira, costs like 10 bucks, but its like an instant cycle. make sure you get one thats from a refrigerator though or it might be a waste of money

Dude I've thus far spent $900 (not including taxes) on my 55 Gallon and I'm still not ready for fish.

Don't worry about what you've spent, just get it done... you will love it.

I'm totally poor and used my entire tax refund for mine... But I'm going all the way with it.
why waste the money throwing it out... because that is TRULY the waste of money.

these are just the ups and downs of fish keeping.

u have to trust some1 extremely dependable to take care of a tank while u arnet around.i trust my aunt.

but once everything settles,u will be so happy u didnt trash it.trust me.i have an ich outbreak in my 15 and i feel like trashing it but i know once the ich is killed,i will enjoy my tank once more

Look, I'm in the same boat. I setup a 36g planted in Miami, FL for my fish and plants in IL to move into. My mother couldn't maintain it and it basically went to garbage. Instead of cleaning it, she removed everything and now the tank is sitting in the family room empty, no water, nothing. So now they have to set it up again, to accomodate my bioload from IL. :grr: I can be mad, or I can start over. I'll be honest, I was mad for a day or two, but what can I do? I normally don't do fishless cycling, since I add so many plants, but since my family can't maintain a planted tank, I have to do one. It's certainly a reason to get frustrated, but not a reason to throw away a tank. I'm not throwing away mine! Just gotta pick up the pieces and move on. I will be on the phone with them for quite a while on Saturday personally supervising a tank setup.

Now, sorry to hijack this thread, but can someone explain this biospira stuff to me and where I can get it? It sounds intriguing, since I don't even think my family at this point can handle the ammonia dosing and water testing that a fishless cycle requires. I love them and they are great regarding my hobby, but they really don't want to learn. Sorry for the extra question.

I feel your pain, but don't give up just yet. It really is a great hobby!

you know you could just throw in some zebra danios there a pretty hardy fish, their not expensive and their just as pretty as alot of other fish dont give up youll really like this hobby when you finally get fish in their

If any of your friends have fish tanks you can simply do a bacteria transfer and take some filter media and put it in you tank and give it some time to start in your tank. and also is you can get a nylon stocking with some gravel in it and hang it in your tank this will also work! i did my tank this way and i was able to add fish instantly!

Where ya from and when are you planning on setting it out. Just let me know and if your not toooooo far away I'll come pick it up. =)

j/k don't give up...you should try seeding your tank. It's a lot less hassle than a basic fish cycle and it's much easier on them. Just swish someones healthy filter media in your tank vigorously while running your filter. That oughta seed your tank. If you can keep the media and put some in your filter that'll work even better.
