Aps 1000Ef + External Filter ?

I received my all pond solution filter 1000EF + external filter today i have it running at the minute and it seems a bit noisy,it saying that its supposed to be quiet,and the spraybar doesnt seem to have great pressure coming out of it,,,is it because its only new that its noisy,i am now thinking to myself that i should of went for the eheim 2215....the outlet is the spray bar? and inlet is the other pipe,am not great at explaining these things etc,,,can ayone help me that maybe has these filters.

It could be just trapped air, these filters are great at clearing trapped air themselves if you just leave it running, one of my 2000ef gets trapped air every time I clean it for some reason. I have not got a 1000 so I dont know about the pressure of those, but I dont use the spray bar on any of mine.

They come with ridiculously long spray bars, you generally don't want all of the pieces.
 
They also rattle a fair bit with water trapped. I think it's the wide tubes.

what a hassle with this filter, i accidentally turned it of and its took me nearly 2 hours to get it going again,and the noise of it is terrible you think its going to blow up,when i primed it the water didnt go to the top of the inlet tube but its working as by the noise of it,and i dont want to do anything to it as i cant be bothere working at it for almost another 2 hours,will this noise stop,how do i get the air out of it? i have wiggled it from side to side,back and fourth,but nothing is happening,someone help me before i bust this thing

Part of the problem is that new media traps air. Takes a few days to clear with any filter. The wide tubes of the APS filters mean that you need quite a large bubble before the flow will dislodge air trapped in any loops.
 
My 2000 settled after a few days, and now rattles briefly if I let the water level drop below the level of the pipe joints (as is sucks in some air, it's running a back office tank that doesn't get much attention paid to it and the water levels drop a bit in the hot weather) but clears this fairly quickly.

Totally daft question here, but I did it once 

if you have the none UV model so you have the head on the right way round? the hole in the head needs to follow the holes in the baskets, you cant make this mistake with the UV model as this is where the UV bulb goes. It does still work if the head is the wrong way round, but its really noisy.
 
Did you was the APS filter floss pads first, and how many have you used, I only use a couple in the top tray as they are so thick they do trap air on startup.

Hey Star,I Have the 3 filter pads in the trays,i was wondering if it would of been better with just using one in the top tray with the carbon,i also have purigen under the floss in the top tray to see if it will make my water a lot clearer.

PURIGEN is extremely dense, so to speak, like sand, so if it's packed tightly it can cause a severe flow restriction. Make sure there is plenty of flow around it. To see if it's causing your problem try the filter without it in.....you never know

I would just put one or two in the top tray, I keep large cichids and only have 2 in the top tray and the water is crystal clear.

The tubes on the APS filters tend to be far wider than most external filters. It means that a fairly large air bubble can collect in the tubes and the water simply flows past, when with a narrower tube it would push through. Trapped air will generally settle within a few days.
 
Spray bar pressure depends on length. Mine came with a huge spray bar, which I am using, but only because the filter is a fair bit oversized for the tank, with one of their 2000's on a 20 gallon, so spreading the flow is useful. Pressure on that isn't really all that strong, but it's a lot more if you shorten it to a more sensible length.

I dont use the carbon generally, if you shorten the spray bar you get better flow.

So do you think i should take the carbon out? i might see if i can make a spray bar with smaller holes in it see if thats any way better.
