so i got a golden mystery snail aka : an apple snail, and she had babies in my tank .. :S after several weeks of water changes and plucking what seemed like a hundred baby snails outta my tank i think i finally got the last one out today.. but after seeing how many there can be, i don't want to be to careful. ANYWAYS.. i've been having a friend house my snail with her fish, that unlike my guppies, will eat her babies, and eggs, but not her. so im going to put her back into my tank soon... if there are more babies, is it a possibility that they will breed too? and if so, do they really breed as they are babies? or is it a certain size?

Now I'm not positive, but I think they have to reach a certain size before mature.

Golden Apple Snails lay a clutch of eggs above the water line of the tank - just remove the clutch of eggs as soon as they are laid. They usually lay them overnight so check in the mornings. They will be in big batches so are easy to spot.

see thats the thing.. i've yet to see an egg clutch anywhere! i thought i mightve seen a small one at one time but it was just a little cluster of something on top of one of the leaves of my plants.. which was submerged. and i was under the impression that they were laid at the top of the water as well.. i read somewhere that some mystery snails were live bearers (thus why it was a mystery while lots and lots just started appearing.. ) but i don't know... crazy creatures.. i think if she has more i'm just gonna invest in an assassin snail

Are you sure it was apple snail babies? Sounds like pond snails to me.

I didn't mean the one you bought was a pond snail. But maybe some got in your tank another way?

Pond snails lay there eggs in the tank in these teeny tiny clear groups that are reallllly hard to see, then next thing you know there will be hundreds of little snails. Did you put some plants in recently?

I think you would have noticed apple snail eggs.

well.. i did get some temple plant from a locally owned fish store around the same time.. but i believe those plants were only in a tank with guppies.. but i suppose thats a good possibility!

Bet a pond snail was on the plant you bought, or some eggs. They are clear and hard to see and the babies are sooooooo tiny.
