They have lawn mowed through my vallis. Took chunks out of my onion plant and now started on my bacopa. Any advice on how to stop this behaviour.

Maybe if you feed them their own food, they will leave them alone. Try blanched cucumber etc or algae wafers if no fish in your tank will beat them to it.
