Apple Snails As Betta Tank Mates?

Are these snails fully grown? A single betta should not be able to kill and consume a well grown apple snail without you noticing either any agression on the fishes part, or him eating them , espescially 3 in a week. Don't forget some fish medications and tank treatments can be lethal to snails and shrimp. So if you've added anything like that , I'd say it was more likely for treatments to kill them.

The snails were not fully grown, there were still small.

When he was in his previos tank with the corries and snails, when he was more social, he used to play football with the snails. He had a couple of attempts at eating them, his reaction when he bit the shell wasd priceless.

At the moment there are no medications etc being used.

Hi just put some apple snails in my tank and my Betta don't seem to like them and keeps playing football with them every time they come out of there shell will this continue have I made the wrong decision. Maybe I shouldn't listen to the aquatic shop I brought them from? can somebody help me ?

As long as the snail is healthy, should be no issue, like all other fish etc, ensure there is of plant coverage.

If they are not healthy snails (i can't remb the name of this exact part), the protective lid/flap of the snail may not close, this will give a betta the opportunity to rip the flesh out.

A healthy apple snail will be fine but do keep an eye out for any weaknesses that may occur.

You have to keep in mind that bettas are fabulous scavengers, give them an inch ad they will defo take 10 miles

SHeepdove, your post was uncalled for

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone has experience keeping apple snails with Bettas (male). I have a 28L tank which I am currently cycling (very slowly grr...) and I intend on getting one male Betta. I have a few apple snails knocking about in another tank and would like to put a couple in the Betta tank. Would the Betta tolerate them do you think? Thanks in advance.
Betta no. I recommend your namesake the Danio. Especially the Red Zebra Danio because of how beautiful it is. Betta's are fighting fish and will constantly attack your Apple Snails. Fish and Snails both should be separated from anything that seeks to attack it all the time. Even if it doesn't get killed from the attacks it can die from the stress eventually. For instance think of how it would be if you were attacked all the time. How would that affect you. If you wouldn't want to be putting up with attacks on you why would you expect Apple Snails to put up with attacks on them? Put yourself in their place.

I have been keeping Bettas for a little while and have NEVER had a problem, the betta investigates, and then everything is ok, never seen any of my 8 female bettas "attack" a betta. they are so comfortable in the tank with the bettas, that my apple snails have 4 eggs nests and the babies that we've had so far are very happy in with Mr. Betta, as they are growing well. so I'd say go for it, except that one apple snail in a 28L tank is enough. i have a 48L tank with only one snail, except the babies which are in there til i get my snail tank running, xx cheers
