apple snail

I'm having soft shell problems as well. I went to a lfs near me and they gave me Reef advantage calcium powder by Seachem and said to put a quarter teaspoon in with each water change. Seems kinda strange but I asked him twice if it's ok for a freshwater tank and he said it was. Anyone have any other opinions on that?

I've got 2 apple snails which are currently in soft acidic water and I have noticed pin prick sized pits in their shells. I think I'll try out that cuttlebone idea as well.
