Well, I had noticed this clutch of eggs on the underside of the hood of my tank the other day, but I figured, "Eh, I'll clean them off later ... they're not going to hatch anyway because they'll dry out being that close to the light."

Uh... I was WRONG!

Man was I surprised when I looked into my tank today and saw little white specks all over!

Does anyone know how fast apple snails grow? Anyone want a few when they get bigger (haha)? I am excited to see what color they turn out though because I have a few different color snails in my tank -- dark purple, jade, and ivory. Hmm. Right now they're totally white.

They grow very quickly to start with, mine quadrupled in size in two weeks, but are slowing down now. If you dont wat baby snails, you need to remove the clusters asap. The warmer they are the quicker they hatch. Some of mine layed the eggs near the light and another just on the glass, the ones near the light hatched in five days but the ones on the glass took two weeks.

mine are about 4 weeks old now and most are 6mm in diameter :)

They are really cool when they are that small (our have layed 2 more clutches of eggs since) if you look really closely you can see their tiny antennie :)

Here is a pic of an adult and one of the 4 week old babies

What wonderful pictures on this thread! Thanks mandi and smithrc.

We always needed a thread with good pictures of apple snail eggs and young. I've put it into my favorites list and will remember to post it for members who inquire about what these eggs look like. :D

Wow that is a nice picture. Thanks for sharing it! :) I wish the macro on my digital camera could handle THAT kind of closeup!

Hi smithrc :)

Thanks for adding those excellent and informative links.

I used to have some apple snails, but they never laid any eggs. Do you do anything special, like feeding certain foods, to get them in condition?

I am sure everyone reading this thread knows this site since it's the best apple snail site there is: www.applesnail.net

I recently got some egg clutches that were laid in tanks which had blues, ivories, purples, yellows and wilds. They have been hatching this week and the babies are growing like weed. I think I am seeing blues, yellows and some purples and few ivories, not sure about the wilds.

Apple snail babies truly are interesting.
