Apistos

soft and acidic.

Thats only true for wild caught species. Most Cichlids these days are available tank bred so water conditions wont matter nearly as much as they used to.

That may be true but the recommended water for most of these fish is soft and acidic, period. You will have a better chance of successfully spawning them in softer water. Eggs may not hatch in hard water.

Hi,
What are the recommended water parameters for Apistos?
that depends to the Apistogramma species you want to keep. We keep and breed different species in different water conditions. Water in the tanks varies from ph 4.5 to 6.5, DH around 3° and no KH, temperature from 18° C (sometimes for the paraguayin trifasctiata) to 28° with A. diplotaenia or A. beanschi in my wifes tanks.

If you start with Apistos, it maybe a good idea to look for A. borellii, A. cacatuoides or A. agassizii. These species tolerate often a wider range of water parameters. But there are even more species, which aren't so critical. In many cases you can look at price - high price, rare species, not as easy as others - low price, common species, not to complicated to keep and breed.

Maybe you find some time and look at apistogramma.com or at our page (german language warning! ;) ) apistogramma.net --> Apistogramma --> Arten

Kind regards
Marc
