I was just looking at my tank, i have 2 Apistogramma cacatuoides (male and female) and noticed loads of TINY little babies following the female?? :hyper: :hyper:

We've had the female for ages now but only introduced the male about 2/3 weeks. anyway the female went missing the last 2 days or so, i just assumed she was hiding. But i found her earlier right down in the corner with loads of little fry swimming around her! She looks a really vibrant yellow and isnt attempting to eat the fry so im assuming its hers??

Whats the chances they are gonna live in a community tank? sadly i dont have another tank for them to go into. The tank is fairly heavily planted and is a general community tank. Stocking is in my profile, im assuming the clownloach will have them for food though

So excited since i've never seen a baby in this tank, even though i have platties and cherry shrimp!

Bright yellow and fry = Apistos :) In fairness mate, though I don't hold out much hope for the poor little buggers.. if there's any fish that can manage to raise fry in that tank, it's the Apistos :)

What fish do you have in there? If you can temporarily rehome any of the bigger/more boistrous fish, that might aid the situation.

The stocking is:

1 x Common plec
1 x BN plec
1 x L201
1 x L134
1 x L018
8 x Lamp eye killifish
8 x Black widow tetra
4 x Cherry shrimp
20 x Neon tetra
9 x Rummy nose tetra
4 x glowlight tetra
4 x black neon tetra
1 x Blue german ram
2 x dwarf cockatoo cichlid (m and f)
3 x bronze cory
2 x jullii cory
4 x swordtales (2m and 2f)
7 x pentazona barbs
4 x clownloach

i doubt very much if they will survive  The female is protecting them though and wont let anything near!! the male just seems to be swimming around normally? Food is just flakes and frozen tropical mix (brine shrimp/bloodworm and something else i think) along with some pleco pellets and cucumber every now and then. Thing is they are right down in the corner by one of the filter intakes!!! although i have seen them swim near it without getting sucked up so it may be ok, but i think food will just get sucked straight up. Only other thing i thought was to cut a bit of the frozen block up and put it in that corner? but at the same time that may encourage the other fish?

It might be worth purchasing some liquifry, which you would literally be able to squirt into their corner.

Yer mate that's a hell of a stocking list  I wouldn't get your hopes up, but you never know eh? :) If they last a couple of weeks, they'll be fine. It's at night that they'll struggle the most, the plecs will have a field day.

Good luck though :)
