Anything Else?

*Bump* Idk, I want to keep the jewel but Ive asked if a jewel can fit 6 months ago and it was yes..now its no, Im confused, can I keep it by itself, or should I return before I get attached? PLus if the answer is yes is a jewel so agressive that I can have only dithers? Or by itself can I add maybe skunk loaches or something, or a plec?

A single jewel won't show the aggressive, territorial behavior that a breeding pair would, and I'm sure you can manage a bit more in the tank. A suitable pleco should do fine, and the skunk loaches can probably handle it - just make sure they have secure hiding spots. Depending how much attention the Jewel pays to them, they may or may not spend a lot of their time in hiding though.

No matter how you look at it, all cichlids are unpredictable and you'll want to keep a close eye on things to make sure things are going smoothly.

Thats probaly how I will go in about a month or so, once I upgrade the lighting and get my tank well planted, figure out where the rest of the caves should go, I will figure out the stocking probaly what I have suggested. I just dont have the money nor the time right now. Thanks for your help freddyk.

i would recomend getting a pair, with no other fish in the tank...
he best part of the hobby is the breeding... not for profit but for the interaction between fish!
just remove the fry at about 1"

I know what you are feeling towards your jewel. A handsome fish indeed. I wanted to keep my
single jewel, but he beat the living christmas out of anything I put in the tank. Whits end and
desperate to avoid the damnation of only the most evil fish---the flush! I express to please try
every avenue to find this poor 'sole' a better life. Be it a return to the pet store where you
bought him/her, a friends tank that can accomodate,an add in the paper and yes a seperate tank
would be good. I know sometimes space and finances are limited. This little gem of a jewel
could be worth it. They become a bute of a red in coloration. I was desperate but did not want
to part with such a handsome fish. I ended up putting him in with a crayfish. 'there, do someting
to an armer plated, pincer machine.' They did. I wouldn't say well, but 'they did'. After a bit of
time I put him in with an east african mixed tank. Been about 3 months and he seems to be doing
well in his new home. This is probably not an ideal situation for him, or even any of the crazy
finned friends in this tank. These east africans are new to me. But every one seems to get along
quite well...... who'd 'ave thought.
