Anyone Watching Crufts?

did anybody else think Big Lebowski when the Pomeranian was mentioned ?

I think it was such a shame that when the dog was disqualified for health reasons the second should have had a chance. It's not about penalizing the whole breed; it’s about penalizing those who breed the imperfections. If the winner ‘had problems’ then surely other people should have had a chance OR they should have been vet checked before they got selected to represent their group.

I’d have loved to have seen how they selected the best to represent each breed of dog (although I keep meaning to look it up online).

I thought that too. You'd think they'd vet check them beforehand to make sure that only totally healthy dogs qualify to represent the breeds. I know that not everyone agrees with it, but it's only for the good of the breed. It must be disappointing for breeders who've previously had successful dogs who now can't be entered though.

I'd also have loved to have seen the breed judging. I suppose they can't show the entire day on tv though. I'll definitely have to go one year. I know a Mexican hairless breeder who enters her dogs every year too, I looked after them. :)

It's got to be more disappointing if you came second to an 'unhealthy' dog who was disqualified!

Apparently most of crufts was shown in youtube...I want to see the breed judging too.

Yeah definitely! I bet they're gutted, especially if their dog is healthier and deserved the win. Maybe the Kennel Club will reconsider that next year, I'm sure there will be complaints.

Ooo I'll have to look on YouTube! Thanks for the tip. :)

I'm all for vet checking the dogs at shows, but it should be done before judging starts as it's not fair to other competitors for an unhealthy dog to get through as far as BoB, then be disqualified.
The judges are also to blame for putting a dog through that has obvious defects.
The judges are supposed to be experts in that breed so should know what to look for.
You don't get invited to judge at Crufts unless you are very experienced in your breed.
My mother judged there 3 times, but only after 30 years establishing herself as an experienced breeder & judge.
Tbh in my experience the kennel club isn't really interested in health issues, as they were the ones that allowed the exaggerations in some breeds to be included in the breed standards.
The KC does nothing about puppy farms, doesn't check pedigrees for accuracy, as long as they get their fees they really don't care
